Yana Kunichoff is a Chicago-based journalist covering immigration, labor, housing and social movements. Most recently, she has been a contributor to Working In These Times, the labor blog of In These Times magazine, an investigative magazine based in Chicago. Previously, she worked at the Chicago Reporter and Truthout.org, where she covered the DREAM Act movement, the rapid loss of Single Room Occupancy hotels in Chicago and proposed changes to deportation policies. In 2013, her team was the recipient of the grand prize for storytelling in the Chicago Migrahack for their project Finding Care. She received a masters degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 2009. The child of Russian immigrants to the United States, she has lived in five countries including the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
