Shefali is the digital producer for Public Radio International’s program The World – a co-production with the BBC at WGBH in Boston. She works under the program’s Global Nation vertical that covers immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers in the U.S. Prior to her role with The World, Shefali was a health care reporter for Kaiser Health News, a non-profit news service in Washington D.C. She wrote a variety of stories about domestic health care policy. Her work has appeared in The Washington Post, Politico and NPR’s health blog “Shots”. After graduating from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, Shefali worked as the Mary Wright Fellow for The Village Voice. She wrote a cover story for the alternative weekly about an undocumented immigrant who was navigating the public health care system to get a heart transplant – a story that sparked her interest in immigration coverage. Shefali is a board member of the South Asian Journalists Association, a non-profit journalism organization with members from around the globe.
