Aurelia attended Otis Parsons School of Art. Since 1990, she has been an award-winning photojournalist for La Opinión, the major Spanish-language publication in Los Angeles. Much of her work has documented life along the U.S.-Mexico border and the human rights violations suffered by migrants. In Sierra Tarahumara, in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, she captured the indigenous community’s life and culture, and in Altar, Mexico, she completed a series on illegal immigration, covering the plight of immigrants waiting to cross the border. She also has covered some of the biggest news events in southern California, including the 1992 L.A. riots and the 1994 Northridge earthquake.
